Two weeks ago it was reported that the Avian Flu was found in German poultry.  Thousands of chickens were destroyed to stop and eradicate this infection.  Indications are that it worked.  Just heard yesterday that the Avian Flu was found in The Netherlands.  Holland is now dealing with the problem.  Eggs from Holland are distributed in Germany.  Fortunately, all products must indicate origin.  Eggs from Holland are not being purchased by the Gernan consumer.  I noted the absence of chickens in the meat department.

Latest reports indicate that the Bird Flu is now found in the UK.  It seems to be spreading even after the slaughter of entire flocks of chickens, ducks and geese.
Various theories of how it came to Europe include the flu being carried from the Far East by migrant birds as well as imported feeds from the Far East (China).

Investigations continue.

A Virus is an invisible killer.
We have already experienced AIDS that originated in Africa.  We now have Ebola, originating in Africa.   Prevention is a necessary pursuit.  Guarding against a Virus is a difficult thing to do.  Some are airborne while others from body fluids.  What is next?  Who knows?
I believe that the new WPM will be a Virus.  Millions will die by the time it is identified and an antidote discovered.

How does one protect oneself against this invisible enemy?  Wish I had an answer.  Precaution with frequent washing of hands can help in transmitting the Flu Virus.  Staying away from the public, i.e., staying home from work can help reduce the spread of a Virus.
I believe one must take personal responsibility when one is sick and unsure why.  Seeing a Doctor immediately can save lives.  Not every known Virus is made public.  The medical profession is alerted when there is a Virus threat.  Getting Flu shots helps with known Viruses.  Each year the serum is altered as the Virus adapts quickly and what was used in previous years is no longer effective.

Personal hygiene is more important than ever and it is the responsibility of each person to take care of oneself as well as doing everything not to infect others.

It's been confirmed this evening that the strain affecting the duck farm here in Yorkshire is the same strain which has been found in The Netherlands H5n8. It does not affect humans. Animal movement restrictions are currently in place to prevent the spread and all 6000 ducks have been culled.

Victoria, mutation to humans is the concern. That most often occurs via food. In my book, "They Plotted Revenge Against America", a Virus was the weapon used. In my research, I obtained help from a Doctor in microbiology. I used the food chain, via birds/poultry for the infection and thus the mutation.

Knowing the source of our food and trusting that source is important. Prevention is key.

Which is the reason for the UK government culling ALL 6000 birds, Abe, and setting up a 10 mile exclusion zone around the affected farm.
