Today was “Seniorentag” (Senior’s Day) in Göcklingen. Each year, the Seniors, aged 70 and above, are invited to the Sport Hall where the Mayor and the Town Council provide a Feast.
The members of the Town Council do the serving along with their wives and children. The table is set with an assortment of wine, Sprüdel (Carbonated water), Apple and Grape juice. The opening of the event is a welcome by the Bürgermeister (Mayor). He then reads the names of the Seniors who passed during the past year as we stand in silence. Today he read the names of seven. Today the Buffet was Rollbraten with Spaetzel, Pommes & Cauliflower including sauce. Desert was ice cream followed by coffee and cake after the entertainment. Those who could not get to the Buffet were served at their seats. The entertainment was a group of Senior ladies who performed several traditional dances to recorded music. It was fun to watch.
I came home and crashed. I ate too much and I cannot resist good wine.
