Brenda,
That is nuts! Succumbing to pressure from any religious group brings their religion into focus. Perhaps that was their intent.
We older folk remember the Christmas of our youth. It was simple. We cut our own Christmas tree and decorating it was a family event followed by Hot Chocolate. Decorations were mostly handmade. Many of the gifts were handmade. That included knitted socks, gloves and hand carved toys. It was a time of giving and not receiving. The thought behind the gift was more important than any real or perceived value. Christmas stories were part of the celebration with nativity scenes. An Angel was always placed on the top of the tree.
Now Christmas is commercial. “Things” represent the holiday.
I’m personally against promoting any dogma; however I see nothing wrong in celebrating a special Day for showing love and giving. That, in my view, represents the spirit of Christmas.
